Dr. Sercan Akpiınar was born in Adana, Turkey, in 1968. He had graduated from school of medicine in University of Çukurova in Adana, in 1992. In the same year, he had passed the specialty examination in medicine and matched the residency program in orthopedic surgery, in University of Istanbul, Istanbul School of medicine.

During his residency program, he finished  a fellowship in University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, about sports medicine, in 1996. In April 1997, he prepared a specialty thesis about “The use of suture anchors in recurrent anterior shoulder instabilities”, and became an orthopedic surgeon.

Between 1997 and 1998 he worked as an orthopedic surgeon in Florence Nightingale Hospital in Istanbul. In June 1998, he began to work in Baskent University Medical Center, in Adana. In 1999 he became Assisstant Professor and in 2004 he passed the examinations and became Associate Proffessor. In 2010, he was promoted to Professor degree.

In 2012, he began to work as a clinical Professor in orthopedic surgery, in Medline Hospital Adana. In 2004, he was selected as a USA travelling fellow by the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow.

In 2005, he passed the Turkish Board of Orthopedic Surgery. And in 2006, he passed the European Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Between 2013 and 2015 he was the President of the Turkish Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow. He is an active member of SECEC (European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow) and ISAKOS ( International Society for Arthroscopy, Knee surgery, and Sports traumatology).
